Let’s Get Physical: Summer Continuing Education Classes at STLCC

If the words “physical education” make you think of dodgeball and laps around the track, it’s time to reconsider. This summer, St. Louis Community College’s physical education continuing education courses offer community members the chance to get active and – this time around – have fun.

Backpacking and Hiking (PE: 106 380) Whether you went camping as a child or are looking for a new hobby this summer, the Backpacking and Hiking course offers an introduction to outdoor living skills. Students will learn about menu planning, choice of proper hiking-camping apparel, campsite development, safety and sanitation. Included are also two, one-day trail walks and one weekend camping trip.

Judo (PE: 137 402) Looking for a new way to get in shape? This introductory Judo course will teach the basic techniques of Sport Judo, including standing throws (Naga Waza), grappling techniques (Katame Waza), choking techniques (Shime Waza) and free exercise (Randori).

Yoga (PE: 181 401) This introduction to Hatha Yoga is designed for students of all physical conditions, whether this is your first activity all week or all year. Students will tone and limber the body as well as reduce the effects of physical and mental strain. Also included in this course are also written observations.

Registration for these courses begins May 7. For more information, call 314-984-7777.

This year, STLCC is celebrating 50 years of educating the community. Whether you first attended STLCC in the 70s or if you’re currently enrolled in your first continuing education courses, we want to hear from you. Leave a mark on our 50th anniversary map and tell us how STLCC has helped shape your life.
